About Rolando Becerra

A multi-media icon based out of Houston, Texas, Rolando Becerra, was born in Sagua La Grande, Cuba. His career in media began in the tumultuous and highly politicized environment of Miami, Florida where he rose to prominence and notoriety for his trailblazing coverage of the Mariel Boatlift and May Riots.

Soon after, his reputation preceding him, he made his now legendary debut in Houston on August 12, 1980 on then Radio KEYH 85. Later moving to KLAT 1010 and then to KXYZ 1320, he returned to KLAT on January 4, 1994 where he was the host of Hoy! Con Rolando Becerra and Inolvidables until 2012. He was also syndicated in Dallas, Texas on KFLC 1270. He is currently the host of The Rolando Becerra Show Online!
 
During his unique career as a dynamic and versatile broadcast journalist, Rolando Becerra has acted as a passionate voice in the community serving a unique role as equal parts educator, consumer advocate and on more than one occasion raised more than a few eyebrows along the way. He has interviewed some of the most influential individuals in politics, culture, sports and media and developed a rabid following of listeners who rely on his unique and charismatic perspective on the news, events and culture that shape our world. Among the guests who have sat in the hot seat for him are former presidents Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon, Vice President Al Gore, then Vice President George H.W. Bush, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Texas Governor Ann Richards, consumer advocate and often presidential hopeful Ralph Nader and every Houston Mayor over the course of the last 30 years and even fellow media figures including Bob Costas.
 
He has interviewed and established relationships with some of the music world’s most iconic figures including Julio Iglesias, Enrique Guzman, Raphael, Cesar Costa, Alberto Vazquez, Angelica Maria, Jose Jose, Jose Feliciano, Jose Luis Rodriguez, King Clave, Leo Dan, Palito Ortega, Alberto Cortez and the list goes on and on.
 
A member of the Texas Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Rolando Becerra has accepted invitations to sit on US Presidential panels concerning Hispanic culture in the United States, hosted political discussion radio programs in both Spanish and English and covered every major event in US and Latin American history since the late 1970s.
 
His career also includes a storied run of sports coverage having provided play-by-play and/or analysis for every major sporting event imaginable. He provided the Spanish Voice of the Houston Astros from 1986 through 1992, the Houston Rockets from 1988 through 1993, the Houston Oilers from 1994 through 1996 and is the sole and current voice of the Houston Texans having sat behind the microphone for every game in franchise history. During this time he has had the pleasure of sitting with every notable athlete, coach and sports team owner imaginable including such icons of the sports world as Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell, Jose Cruz, former Astros Owner Drayton McLane, former Houston Oilers owner and current Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams and current Texans owner Bob McNair.
 
Rolando Becerra has had a storied and incredible career that has reached across genres spanning news and politics to music to sports always on his own terms, always outspoken and always unique. An incendiary personality known for provoking thought and action, Rolando Becerra is a true pioneer in Texas media known for his rugged honesty and unpredictable delivery.
